Make your existence more meaningful by grabbing this life changing read from our pet RSS feed. Go on, you KNOW it makes sense!

The following post really concentrates on working within a WordPress blog, because that’s what I know. Blogger instructions are at the bottom!

At present, unless you have changed it, the ‘comments’ page of your Wordpress blog will have the ‘no-follow’ tag activated.

What this means is that, should you leave a comment on someone else’s blog, the next time that Google spiders that blog site, the spider will NOT follow the link from your comment back to your site.

Thus, you are effectively losing search engine ‘credit’ and incoming links, and we should all be aware by now of how important incoming links are.

So, go to http://www.semiologic.com/software/wp-fixes/dofollow/ and download the ‘DoFollow’ WP plug-in.

Install it and activate. This removes the ‘no-follow’ tag from the comments page.

Then, have a look at the ‘Big Blogroll’ in the right-hand sidebar on this page.

All of those blog sites have also removed the ‘no-follow’ tag as well, so start visiting them and posting comments (including a comment here, of course!).

See that my site is featured in this list? You obviously want your site there as well, so go over to http://www.feverishthoughts.com/index.php and follow the instructions to get yourself included.

Now, whenever you post a comment on any of these sites, you will then get credit and an incoming link the next time that the site which you commented upon gets spidered.

But do remember that many of the blog owners will have editorial control of the comments that get accepted and published, so make sure it is worth them publishing whatever it is that you write.

‘Nice blog’, ‘hey, man, I agree’ and anything related to viagra, cialis or the latest supermodel diet plan will probably not do it!

Likewise, because you have got rid of the ‘no-follow’ tag, anyone that comments on your blog will also get the same benefits, so you should see more useful comments on your own pages as well!

Finally, if you haven’t already done so, get yourself an account at technorati.com and watch your site popularity climb, simply from actioning this one simple, free step.

Hope that helps - post your comments (you know why now…..) to let me know!

Steve

PS. If (AFTER [and only after - it's the law] reading the post) you want to take the same actions with a blogger blog, then the place to look for details on how to do so can be found at http://webbiz99.com/blogflw.html

I’m on the list too! :) It’s definitely brought a lot of traffic to my site and brought my Alexa rating way up. I’ve also found many interesting blogs (including this one hehe) on the list. :)

I also just implemented DO FOLLOW on my own blogs over the weekend. It’s great to give an instant link back to people who bothered to leave a comment.

I’ve noticed quite a few wordpress bloggers have joined the do follow campaign. Seems that people who use blogger or typepad have a harder time getting the no follow changed. I’m thinking of adding a blog to my main site and using wordpress as the platform. Mainly because there are so many free plugins available for it. Nice post, especially about the “me too, nice post” comments. I never approve them either.

I started using the plug in a few weeks ago. I’ve met so many people by doing this. I try to visit at least 10 dofollows each week the list is long and keeps growing.

I like your website layout. It’s very nice. I recently started playing around with ads.

I’m also a do follow blogger. It just makes sense. Blogging is a social thing.

    Hello,
I have removed ‘nofollow’ from Blogger and I think it’s ok, actually there were 2 of them. What I don’t get is wordpress.
Do I get it right if I think that if my blog is
something [dot] wordpress [dot] com i CAN’T remove ‘nofollow’?

    Hi Flanture,
Yes, given that a wordpress.com blog is not hosted on your site, then I guess that you cannot get rid of the no-follow,
    Steve

Great! Thanks! Just realized the other day before you brought this plugin to my attn that there was such a thing as “no-follow”. DL’d, installed, & will be visiting others this weekend. Have a GREAT one! :-)
